...to a website that's packed to bursting with information and fresh ideas about risk and control that will help you expand your thinking and get better results more easily.

It's taken years to develop this huge body of work and it's all freely available on this website, but only because previous visitors have expressed their thanks in practical ways. They've contacted me for consulting help, or training, or helped with a research study, or given ideas for new topics or services, or sent links to colleauges, or just written to let me know what they liked.

It's important that you do something too, if you like the site, because that's what has made this site the unique treasure trove it is.

That, and the fact that I've always tried to write things that haven't been written before, that matter, and that are some kind of valuable improvement over whatever has gone before. On some themes I seem to be virtually the only person writing serious material, even though I know a lot of people immediately find the topics interesting when they see my articles and presentations.

If you find any of these articles interesting then you will be in good company. This site is read by many people around the world and feedback shows that it is the experts who appreciate it most. My consulting clients over the last few years have included experts at BP, BT, Land Securities (who won an award for work I helped with), a leading Swiss bank, BDO Stoy Hayward, and the United States Army flew me to Arizona to give a presentation to 400 people on "Risk Management with Impact".

Please think of this site and my business as a source of insights and ideas to help you do what you want to do, and a source of practical help from someone who can work along with your approach.

This website is big! Something like two business books and still growing. And now there is a book, "Intelligent internal control and risk management", published by Gower. However, all this work rests on some simple beliefs:

• We get better results when we open our minds to uncertainty and plan accordingly.

• Internal control and risk management are really one thing, but with a lot of different techniques.

• Auditing is a skilled and valuable activity (and I've done a lot of it) but what internal control needs more of is people who focus on efficiency and are reponsible for getting things done.

• People and life do not work the way the management control textbooks say and it's the books that need to change.

Of course, a major reason this site exists is to encourage you to make contact with me. You can do that easily because this site gives you plenty of information about me, or at least my thinking, and because the contact pages are designed to clarify the basis of your contact and make sure I know exactly what you expect.

You can therefore be confident that I will not do anything unwelcome with information you provide - such as bombarding you with unwanted e-mails.
