Personal skills to manage risk & uncertainty Most people working in organizations believe that the contribution they make by managing risk and uncertainty skillfully in their daily working lives is more important than the contribution they make by participating in formal risk management processes. I agree. The following articles are on this website, and I've taken the theme even further on www.ManagedLuck.co.uk which features articles on topics like uncertainty and stress, and uncertainty in interpersonal relationships. Open and honest about risk and uncertainty Research you can take part in Hundreds of people have already participated in trials of a survey tool called RUMA that looks at how we think we should handle risk and uncertainty in everyday situations at work. However, I'm still looking for people who think they can get between 10 and 30 people in their organization to tackle the survey. Their responses will be included in my research and in a confidential benchmarking database that allows me to compare the cultures of different organization. In addition, each participant receives a personal report reminding them of the scenarios and how they answered, and showing how their answers compare statistically with others and with my advice. Many people have told me they found the scenarios extremely thought provoking and response rates for RUMA are unusually high, confirming that people often feel they benefit from the experience. RUMA trials are quick and easy to do so please get in contact. I hope that use of RUMA will one day be expensive, so how about taking the opportunity now while it still costs nothing. Also, if you have some ideas for research you think someone needs to do then why not write and let me know? |
